When I wrote
the last word about the emotions of the Spirit I received many emails confirming
what the Lord had spoken to me. The overwhelming response was that more
information was needed to help in the discernment of emotions so we as a people
could overcome and be victorious in all areas. As I wrote the word the Lord told
me that it would be released in increments, as this is a very deep and wide
teaching. In obedience to the Lord I will speak the Words I hear my Father say
with the prayer that we all may be free to worship HIM in the Beauty of His
Holiness.
In the word the Spirit relayed that many in the Body of Christ have felt
heaviness and grief, some to the point of despair. Many people did not
understand the feelings and sensations and had begun to feel that there was
something wrong with them. The Lord wanted us to know that He was allowing His
people to feel an increase in the "emotional sensations" to become
aware of the need for intercession, change and deliverance. The Father is
calling unto His children desiring them to seek Him while He may yet be found.
He said that we are in a season of open repentance for us to acknowledge where
we have fallen short. He wants us to lay it at the alter so He may remove it
from our lives. In cases that require deliverance as Jesus taught, Father would
begin to bring forth the deliverers to set the captives free with His Pure
Love.
In a vision that I had as I wrote the first part of this teaching/word I saw
multitudes of Believers in spiritual bondage. Many had sought out medical care
and man's wisdom to make them feel better. Still more were taking
anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications to try to diminish the emotions.
This of course did not help in most cases because the emotions were not of a
fleshly nature. The emotions and sensations in some cases had gone on for years
and the hopelessness had caused many to fall away from the Lord. These Believers
did not understand that in some cases the Spirit was giving them "prophetic
intercessions emotions" and in others it was demonic torments. The
prophetic emotions felt were not meant to drive the people to condemnation but
to help them minister life to others. The demonic forces being felt masqueraded
as human nature and flesh were sent to destroy. Because of lack of teaching in
the area of the mind and emotions believers fell into condemnation because they
were not able to hold onto joy and peace. This in turn opened demonic sin
doorways because some fell into unforgiveness, anger, shame and blame. Some even
attempted to escape by becoming ensnared with alcohol, lust, and other sins to
quiet the torment in their minds. When sin entered in it caused the emotion to
change from an intercessory emotion to a fleshly emotion. This then began to
drive them even deeper into sin until they reached a point where they were
unable to accept the love and cleansing Blood of Jesus. This self-condemnation
was due to the lying spirits that began to control their mind and emotions. As
this vicious cycle continued it caused a lack of growth in the Kingdom of God
because believers became more self consumed and did not lay down their lives for
each other. In many cases the kingdom growth was hindered because believers used
liberty given by the Spirit to cover sin and fleshly emotions. This in turn
broke down the powerful weapon that we are to use to help bring the Kingdom into
unity, intercession.
We as Believers are all called to intercession in some fashion or another. There
is no one exempt from this call, as our example is from our Lord and Savoir
himself. Jesus hung on the cross and interceded for those who persecuted him.
When we look to the scriptures for examples of spiritual emotions we can find
them in multitudes. In the following scripture we see a prophetic description of
Jesus and how he had spiritual emotions connected with intercession.
[Isa 53:11] He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by
his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their
iniquities.[Isa 53:12] Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and
he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul
unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of
many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
The need for intercession is spoken of throughout the Word of God and the lack
of surrender and obedience has been documented for just as long. In Ezek 22:30
the Lord proclaimed, " And I sought for a man among them, that should make
up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not
destroy it: but I found none." In Jeremiah the Lord God called upon His
prophets to make intercession for the people that the remnant would not go to
Babylon
[Jer 27:18] But if they be prophets, and if the word of the Lord be with them,
let them now make intercession to the Lord of hosts that the vessels which are
left in the house of the Lord, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at
Jerusalem, go not to Babylon.
Even in the New Testament we are give examples of the need for intercession. The
Spirit of God who lives inside us makes intercession with groanings that cannot
be uttered. This is one of the sensations that are felt with spiritual emotions.
That is why at times only by praying in the Spirit will a burden be lifted.
[Rom 8:26] Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not
what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession
for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
[Rom 8:27] And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the
Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of
God.[Rom 8:34] Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather,
that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh
intercession for us.
When we look to the original Greek translations and the definition according to
the Webster's 1828 dictionary we get an even clearer understanding of the depth
spiritual emotion. There is a common thread that continues to occur it is the
overwhelming sensation of the burden. As you research more into the root you
begin to see that this emotion can even produce a deep grief that can be intense
and at times difficult to bear. Some prayer burdens are so intense that it can
feel like passage through the gap is not possible. This is an intercessory
burden at its greatest. As we continue into the day of utter darkness this form
of burden will intensify because the love of many will wax cold. This is why we
need to understand this form of spiritual emotion.
GROANING, n. The act of groaning; lamentation; complaint; a deep sound uttered
in pain or sorrow.
Strong's number: 4726 stenagmos Greek: from 4727; a sigh: --groaning.
Strong's number: 4727 Greek: stenazo from 4728; to make (intransitively, be) in
straits, i.e. (by implication) to sigh, murmur, pray inaudibly: --with grief,
groan, grudge, sigh.
Strong's number: 4728 Greek: stenos probably from the base of 2476; narrow (from
obstacles standing close about): --strait.
STRAIT, a. 1. Narrow; close; not broad.
2. Close; intimate; as a strait degree of favor.
3. Strict; rigorous.
4. Difficult; distressful.
5. Straight; not crooked.
STRAIT, n1. A narrow pass or passage, either in a mountain or in the ocean,
between continents or other portions of land; 2. Distress; difficulty;
distressing necessity
By reading the above definitions it becomes even more evident that intercession
can sometimes be a difficult and uncomfortable position to be in. When we
operate through the Spirit of the Lord this burden will not become utterly
overpowering, because He will utter groanings for those things that cannot be
uttered. Unfortunately to some in the Body intercession has become a hard and
tedious chore. This is because of the lack of training in handling spiritual
burdens and emotions. And without a proper understanding it can cause great
difficulties in our flesh. The enemy has used this open door to push down
Believers so that either their prayers have become ineffective or they don't
pray at all because of a misunderstanding of the spiritual emotion felt. Often a
believer will be convinced that there is something wrong with them in the flesh
and at times they will seek medical intervention. Of course since this is of
spiritual nature, medicines and counseling will not abate the heaviness.
Now the opposite of spiritual emotions comes fleshly emotion. The Word exhorts
us to "walk in the Spirit and we will not fulfill the lusts of the
flesh". We are born into flesh and unless we renew our minds we are driven
by the lusts of the mind and of the flesh. When we are walking in the flesh we
will be governed by the forces of nature that are in the earth. Even Paul knew
about this battle over the nature of the flesh when he spoke in Romans 7. When
he ended speaking about the negative factors of his flesh he made a bold and
accurate proclamation. This is a key to victorious living and understanding the
principal behind the difference in the emotions.
[Rom 7:25] I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I
myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin [Rom 8:1] There
is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not
after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
[Gal 5:13] For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty
for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.[Gal 5:14] For all
the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as
thyself[Gal 5:15] But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be
not consumed one of another.[Gal 5:16] This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and
ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
The scriptures above provide a real abundance of principals behind abundant
living including that includes victory over emotions. We are told the law is
fulfilled in one word LOVE. It is this word that drives our desire to seek the
Lord and intercede for our brethren. As we are obedient to the call of God to
stand in the gap for each with pure love our personal victory over the flesh
becomes more evident in our fruit. Now if we fall into the flesh and work not
out of love but from a personal desire or gainsaying they opposite comes to
pass. Our bondage to emotions and the flesh grows and victory is impossible. We
cannot operate in the flesh and the Spirit at the same time. If we use abuse the
covering of the Spirit and proclaim that our fleshly emotions are God's emotions
we will become ensnared by even more emotional torments.
As the Word warns above we are not to use the liberty as an occasion to serve
the flesh. This is a key area were we as Believers falter. Because we are born
again and Spirit filled we feel that every feeling and emotion is from God.
Oftentimes the Word will be used as a weapon covering our own shortcomings and
highlighting others faults. Apparently Believers even in the time of Paul
battled this form perversion of emotion, as he had to warn them not to devour
and bite one another. They also had to be reminded to renew their minds so the
flesh would not govern their walks.
[Gal 5:17] For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the
flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the
things that ye would.[Gal 5:18] But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under
the law.
We must make a choice to die to "self" and our own fleshly nature on a
daily basis. If we feel we have achieved this prideful arrogance will only cause
us to falter and hurt others in the process. This is the law of sin and death
that will cause us to fall into willful sinning and make it impossible for us to
hear the Spirit of the Lord clearly. This fleshly cycle must be recognized so we
may overcome.
There are key flags to give us indicators of when we are feeling the emotion of
the Lord or the emotion of our flesh. Emotions of the flesh will cause us to
become self-centered and lack temperance. Because the emotions of the flesh are
governed by the rules of nature physical conditions can affect them. Hormones,
demonic forces, and even the pull of the moon will cause us to change with the
laws of nature. There are tremendous ups and downs that push us over the edge
and cause us to fall into works of the flesh. The only way to overcome this
tendency is to continually renew our minds and walk in the Spirit continually.
One lie the enemy whispers in our minds is that it is not possible to be
victorious in this area, after all we are in the world. The Word tells us that
it is not only possible to walk in the Spirit, but it commands us to do so. By
grasping this key a great foundation is laid for us to overcome all manner of
evil and change from glory to glory growing in the grace of our Lord.
